This webinar will present an overview of the current societal recommendations regarding breast cancer risk assessment in routine practice. It will describe the various risk assessment models and the nuances for their incorporation into clinical practice. The webinar will also outline the steps to implement a risk assessment program in a breast imaging practice and review some of the preliminary results from implementation within a multidisciplinary breast program in a tertiary care facility.


Dr. Mai Elezaby is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Elezaby graduated from Cairo University Faculty of Medicine, in Cairo, Egypt, then completed her radiology residency as well as fellowship training in breast imaging at the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Elezaby is currently the section chief for Breast Imaging and Intervention. Dr. Elezaby’s clinical focus has been increasing awareness and education among referring clinicians and patients on the appropriate imaging recommendations and patient compliance for primary and supplemental screening recommendations within her state with the goal of narrowing the gap between routine practice and national benchmarks hence improved patient outcomes. Dr. Elezaby’s academic career has focused on education, through her prior roles as assistant director of residency program and the breast imaging fellowship, she focused on incorporating novel teaching methodologies to improve resident and fellow education. She is a strong advocate of global outreach in radiology education and works on extending these experiences to residents and medical students across the globe. She is a former member of the SBI CME and SAM committee and a strong supporter of the SBI educational initiatives.
