Congratulations SBI Fellow, Etta D. Pisano, MD on her appointment as Dean of the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina
The Medical University of South Carolina announced the appointment of Etta D. Pisano, M.D. as the next dean of the College of Medicine and Vice President of Medical Affairs. Dr. Pisano will become the first woman to lead the MUSC College of Medicine, and one of only about a dozen female deans of medical schools in the United States.
Dr. Pisano had been a faculty member at the University of North Carolina for more than 20 years, where she was the Kenan Professor and served as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the School of Medicine.
Etta was the principal investigator of the ACRIN trial on digital mammography. The results of that study, one of the largest investigations of breast cancer screening, demonstrated advantages of digital mammography for the detection of cancers in younger women.
The Society of Breast Imaging congratulates Dr. Pisano on her new appointment and wishes her well.
